Social media isn’t harder to control either. If a government wants, it can block platforms, require real-identity accounts, force moderation rules, or pressure companies to hide certain posts. And yes, in many places, these rules end up disproportionately affecting women — especially anything related to sexuality, empowerment, appearance, or simply existing publicly in a way someone finds “too bold.”
