Before going into the costs of the website there are important things to consider as this has happened to every single producer to walk this Earth
Yup. There is a cost associated with that and NO ONE. And I mean NO ONE that has produced videos has been able to avoid. I will list the most common situations, based on information several producers have shared with me. I also experienced first-hand a couple of the following:
- Cancellations or no shows.
This happens often. regardless of whether the girl has an agent or independent. I helped my buddy NaughtyBoy shot with between 5 to 8 girls in the span of 4 years. However, other 3 girls -that were not newbies at all- cancelled. One of them 5 hours before his flight from the US to Canada. This very experienced cam girl cancelled only because I called her to confirm as Naughtyboy told me she was not replying his messages to set up the hour of the shoot. That costed him 300 bucks of flight cancellation and a lot of his time and good mood.
- Change of what has been agreed on
Yes. This happened to me with a famous model. I already had got a bad reference of her, but I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. The week prior to the shoot, with her flight booked and me already deciding to not fly another girl, this girl decided that her fee was only for the equivalent of 2 hours… yet it was a full-day shoot. Her fees were already above the average. She pulled a lot of excuses as to why she had to make practically 3 times what she was gonna make and work less. Even after showing her the written messages where she agreed on dates, flights and fees. In the end she agreed to do as already confirmed. however, I had to cancel due to the lack of trust I had in her. When talking with one of the big companies about this girl, the owner told m they had the same issue with her. However, she worked the shoots they had agreed on. It has also happened to producers that girls show up for hardcore and when they get there they say the fee was only for BJ and they should get more money for hardcore, even tho there was already a written agreement on the specifics.
Maria Body was a wonderful model to shoot with. Actually all my models I got to shoot have been real sweethearts, professional and gave no trouble.
- Party girls
I have been told by several producers that they have had girls arriving high or under the influence to the shoot, making them unable to perform. I know stories of producers just traveling for a girl to find out that the girl arrived hangover and were complaining about having to work under that circumstance they put themselves into in the first place.
- No shows
Yes. It has happened to many. It comes with the territory. A producer I know was looking to shoot with a busy rookie. The girl had her phone off. So when the producer talked to the agent the agent sent him another pornstar that was avaialble. However, the producer who at that time was only shooting busty girls opened the door to a flat-chested girl.
- Me too
Ask Pierre Woodman how it went with Lana Rhoades. She make a lot of accusation about Woodman. However, as the old fox he is, he had everything recorded in a hidden camera and proved she was lying. While I do not remember why she had to lie about Woodman, there are many cases the girls lie to the agents because they do not want to give the commission to the agent. So blaming the agent for putting her with a producer that was making them feel uncomfortable and throwing the agent under the bus is often used by certain girls as a way to keep the 20% commision that goes to the agent. Obviously, there are cases when the producers and male talent do not behave properly, but I am not talking about those cases here.
Where you sell can make a huge difference on your revenue. Here the 3 main options:
- Own website
It is always better to have your own site. It is a lot of work and you need your own IT team and all. Also you need PCI compliance to assure the site is secure for customers. Add the payment processing and you have to give around 11% of your revenue. However, blogs like this and other sites have people promoting those sites. Why? Because websites pay a % of the sales. This goes between 30% tp 50%. So right there, if you have your own site you only make between 39% to 48% of your whole price.
They offer you to have your own site, but everything is on their servers. You only create content and put it there. You have also the chance to get affiliates. Modelcentro charges 20%. So add the affiliate and you get between 30% to 50%.
Onlyfans keeps the 80% but does not allow to have affiliates, meaning that the advertisement is limited. As onlyfans memberships tend to be between $10 to $25, it makes it a cheap option for fans.
In my case, having onlyfans is the best as a starting point, but in a couple of years the content could migrate to a self-managed platform.
I hope this series of post have provided you a better understanding on what it takes to shoot content. What are the risks and costs that producers incur to create content and what are the fixed costs that everybody who produces have to cover to be profitable. In summary producing content worth for 12 months may cost you less than 20k if you want it simple, but could go around 50K or even if you want to have a team take several shoots and do high-quality content in terms of pre-production, production and post-production.
